The Ionian Sea offers the most tranquil sailing in the whole of Greece. Passages are normally made on protected waters between the islands and the coast so navigation is line of sight, the Meltemi is less pronounced and there are no tides. The Southern Ionian islands of Lefkas, Ithaca and Cephalonia encircle what is almost and inland sea, with more than 20 smaller islands offering safe anchorages in bays sourrounded by Olive Groves and pine trees.
To the north Corfu with is mixture of Greek and Venetian architectural influences is easily reached by plane from Athens, and many European airports. The Seafarer bases in the Ionians are on the islands of Lefkas and Corfu. The choice of a starting point is yours to make.
