DESTINATIONS STARTING FROM HALKIDIKI
Halkidiki is a large peninsula in the northwestern Aegean Sea, resembling a hand with three fingers, Kassandra, Sithonia, and the autonomous Mount Athos region which constitutes the easternmost part of the peninsula with an extensive network of Orthodox and Greek-Orthodox monasteries. A magical coastline with crystal clear waters, unique destinations and traditional cuisine! The sandy beaches lie beneath the lush landscape and more than 26 award winning spots for their quality of services will give you peace and relaxation.
Halkidiki is only a couple of hours away from Thessaloniki. An accessible destination even for a daily trip. Sailing distances are really short and weather in the area is calm and sunny throughout the summer. All around the peninsula sailors can find safe bays and harbors with basic amenities.
Most of the coastal villages in Halkidiki are well organized, offering visitors high quality services (hospital, restaurants, beach bars, banks, car rentals, super markets, hotels etc.). Most of them have secure harbors with fresh water and electricity distributed to all docks.
-Greek mythology often refers to Halkidiki: the earthquake giant, called Egelados is buried in Kassandra. Athos has been reformed by the rock that Egelados threw against the Gods, and Sithonia owns its name to Sithonas, son of Poseidon.
-Mount Athos, known in Greece as the Holy Mountain (Agion Oros), is the easternmost peninsula in Halkidiki containing 20 monasteries. The region is governed by the ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople. Only men are permitted to enter Mount Athos. Most of sailors choose to sail near the peninsula and point out the monasteries and the mountainous landscape.
“These Scattered Isles”, which is the literal translation of their Greek name, is an archipelago located along the east coast of Greece, north of the Cyclades islands. Dense vegetation, rocky landscapes, pure blue and calm seas makes those 19 islands a unique destination! The distances between most of the islands are of a couple of hours maximum, turning the week itinerary into a captivating exploration!
Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonnisos and Skyros being the biggest islands of the group, are offering all services and amenities a traveler may ask; supermarket, bank, car & bike rentals, restaurants, bars & clubs, public transportation, health center and museums to name a few! They all have secure harbours with fresh water and electricity distributed to all docks.
-The Sporades archipelago was used by pirates after the fall of the Roman Empire as a hideout due to the secluded and secure small bays. In Alonnisos’ port, Patitiri, there is a Pirate museum with a lot of discoveries from the “Pirate Era”.
-Viewers of the film Mamma Mia will recognize the thrill of visiting the real-world filming locations of its scenes set in Skopelos island. Kastani beach on the south west coast was the film’s main location site.
